Welcoming Greater Charlottesville held its third annual iftar (the meal Muslims eat to break their daily fast during Ramadan) on March 17 at the Brooks Family Y. About 60 people attended, including several community and UVA leaders.
Our guest speaker was Dr. Babur Lateef, a member of the UVA Board of Visitors and chair of the Prince William County school board. He spoke about several Islamic values that are needed in our society today, like compassion, empathy, mutual understanding. The event was co-sponsored by the Islamic Society of Central VA, Muslim Student Association at UVA, and Rumi Forum.
